ELBING – Stopping offensive runs and fouling were the nemesis of the Moundridge girls on Friday as they went on the road to Elbing and lost 43-31 to Berean Academy.

The Lady Wildcats led by one, 9-8, at the end of the first quarter before Berean took a two-point, 18-16 lead into the halftime break and then pulled ahead by six at 27-21 heading into the fourth quarter where Berean ran off six straight points just as Moundridge closed to within six, giving the home team the advantage to finish off the final 12-point victory over the Lady Wildcats.

“We traveled to Berean and struggled on the offensive end in the second half,” noted Moundridge head coach Vicky Kessler in her post game reflections. “We never recovered after Berean went on a 6-0 run early in the fourth and then we had to foul to get the ball back, which resulted in sending Berean to the charity stripe 29 times in the game. We will need to rebound quickly since we have three games in four days next week.”

Berean also out shot the Lady Wildcats 41% to 32% for the game.

Kate Eichelberger led Moundridge with 12 points which included going 6-of-7 at the free throw line. Eichelberger just missed a double-double as well with nine rebounds. Kindall Elmore chipped in with eight points and four rebounds.

The loss drops the Moundridge girls to 12-5 for the season as they prep for an extremely busy final week of the regular season with three home games in four days as they play host to Sedgwick on Monday, Ell-Saline on Tuesday and Remington on Thursday.
