MOUNDRIDGE – It was a two-headed monster and team consistency that powered the Moundridge girls to a 60-50 win over Sedgwick on their home court Monday evening.

Moundridge scored 18 or 16 points in three of four quarter and hit for 10 in the other, that is consistency.

Taking a five-point, 18-13 lead at the end of the first quarter, Sedgwick played the Lady Wildcats even in the second and Moundridge still had a five-point, 34-29 advantage heading into the halftime break. Sedgwick knocked a point off the lead in the third before the Lady Wildcats put the game away in the final eight minutes for the final 10-point victory.

“The Lady Wildcats took on hot shooting Sedgwick,” noted Moundridge head coach Vicky Kessler. “The game went back and forth until three minutes left in the fourth quarter when we took a 10-point lead and maintained it until the end of the game.”

The two-headed monster for the Lady Wildcats came from Kate Eichelberger and Kourtney Kaufman who combined to score 45 of the teams 60 points as Eichelberger had a huge game with 28 points and Kaufman chipped in with 17. Eichelberger had a double-double as she led the team in rebounds with 10 while also blocking five shots and going 10-of-10 from the free throw line.

Moundridge held a decisive edge at the charity stripe as they made 18-of-25 while Sedgwick only shot three the whole game.

Erin Durst also had a strong game, scoring nine while directing the offense and dishing out eight assists.

Coach Kessler concluded her post-game reflections by adding, “Sedgwick had a strong performance from the three-point line by knocking down seven, while we had four, all four from Kourtney (Kaufman). Sedgwick did not have an answer for Kate (Eichelberger) when she got to the block. This was a good win for us. The girls had to battle the entire game on both ends of the floor. We have two more games this week and need to be playing our best basketball as we head toward substate.”

With the victory, the Lady Wildcats are now 13-5 for the season as they close out the regular season with home game on Tuesday against Ell-Saline and then another home game on Friday when Remington comes to town.
