MOUNDRIDGE – Once they took a slim second quarter lead, the Moundridge boys hung on to hold off Sedgwick on Monday at home and score a 54-51 win.

Sedgwick pushed out to a four-point, 14-10 advantage by the end of the first quarter, but the Wildcats clawed their way back enough to take a one-point, 22-21 lead heading into the halftime break. Both teams scored 17 in the third before Moundridge was able to add a couple of points to their lead late in the game and finish out with the three-point victory.

“Tonight, we knew we were playing for a potential home court sub-state first round game,” pointed out Wildcat head coach Vance Unrau. “We came out and competed pretty much with every possession as I had challenged our guys to get on the glass and we had more guys grabbing boards tonight.”

Six Wildcats recorded at least two rebounds in the game with Landon Kaufman, Jon Schlosser, and Corbin Unruh all grabbing five.

Kaufman led the Wildcats on offense with 20 points, including three three-pointers while Schlosser also reached double digits with 13 and Unruh just missed with nine while Logan Churchill chipped in with eight.

It was a team effort on offense as Moundridge dished out 15 assists on 19 baskets made during the outing, including a team leading six by Unruh.

Coach Unrau concluded his reflections on the game by saying, “We need to keep that balance. The game was tight throughout and we found a way to get stops late and shoot free throws to close it out.”

The victory give the Wildcats a season mark of 12-7 as they finish out the regular season on Tuesday by hosting Ell-Saline.
