MOUNDRIDGE – Once they got into the second half, the Moundridge girls buried visiting Remington at home on Thursday in a make up game, winning by a whopping 31 points, 68-37.

With the score tied at 11-11 at the end of the first quarter, the Lady Wildcats pulled out to take a comfortable nine-point, 29-20 advantage as the two teams headed to the halftime break. Once the second half began it was all Moundridge as they outscored Remington 39-17 to earn the final 31-point victory.

“The Lady Wildcats struggled the first half getting in the flow offensively and turned it around in the second half,” explained Lady Wildcat head coach Vicky Kessler. “We shot 41% from the field while holding Remington to just 18%. Our defense allowed Remington to get to the line where they shot 12-of-14 and we shot 20-of-28.”

The Lady Wildcats were led by the tandem of Kate Eichelberger who both scored double-doubles in the game.

Eichelberger took control of the inside and put 26 points in the scorebook along with 13 rebounds, a steal and a blocked shot.

Kaufman chipped in with 15 points and her 11 rebounds while also dishing out four assists and making three steals.

Kindall Elmore also reached double digits in the scorebook for Moundridge with 10 points while grabbing four rebounds and handing out three assists while Erin Durst led the defense with five steals.

Lady Wildcat coach Kessler concluded her reflections on the game by adding, “I was pleased with the way the team responded after half time. I challenged them to get the ball in the paint and step it up on the defensive end.”

With the win, the Lady Wildcats conclude the regular season at 15-5 as they now prep for the Class 2A substate beginning on Tuesday, March 2 when they play host to county rival Inman. If they win against Inman, they will then play the winner of a game between Salina Sacred Heart and Hutchinson Trinity Catholic.
