BOUGHFMAN, OLANDER LEAD LADY REDSKINS

By William

LITTLE RIVER – The Little River girls used a solid first half to overcome a sluggish third quarter on Thursday when they defeated Goessel 49-34 in their Class 1A Division I substate semifinals.

Now 17-3 for the season and ranked fifth, the Lady Redskins will now tangle with Rural Vista on Saturday for the sub-state championship. Little River defeated Rural Vista earlier in the season, but it took double overtime to do it.

On Thursday, the Lady Redskins jumped out to a 10-point, 16-6 first quarter lead and then pushed it up to a 13-point advantage at 27-14 heading into the halftime break. Goessel whittle four points off the lead in the third quarter before Little River pulled back out to earn the final 15-point victory.

“I thought we played a little tight against Goessel tonight,” noted Lady Redskin head coach Brent Clark. “This team is very young and inexperienced playing in these big games.”

Junior Lily Boughfman and freshman Aubrey Olander both scored double-doubles in the game with Boughfman putting 23 points on the scoreboard to go with 11 rebounds while Olander chipped in with 12 points while also grabbing 11 rebounds.

As a team, Little River pulled down 34 rebounds in the contest, split evenly between 17 on the offensive end and 17 on the defensive end.

Another freshman, Alaina Eck led the offense by dishing out four assists as the Lady Redskins recorded 16 assists on just 19 field goals in the game.

Coach Clark concluded his post-game reflections by saying, “When we needed to, we made the big plays. We did not shoot the ball very well and when we play Rural Vista in the substate championship game on Saturday, we will have to have a better performance if we want to move on to the state tournament.”
