MOUNDRIDGE HAS NEW COACH

By William

MOUNDRIDGE – There will be two things about the Moundridge high school baseball team for the 2021 season – they are back, just like everyone else after having the 2020 season cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and they have a new coach.

Jason Rains takes over as head coach of the Wildcats baseball program and will be looking at some major work ahead of him as the programs was only a .500 team in 2019.

WILDCAT KEY LOSSES TO GRADUATION/TRANSFERS:

According to Coach Rains, “The majority of our varsity team from 2019 when we last took the field has graduated over the past two years. We have 3 or 4 returners who saw some varsity action two seasons ago.”

WILDCAT KEY RETURNING PLAYERS:

Wyatt Falco = Senior 1B/P

Jon Schlosser = Senior 3B/P

Corbin Unruh = Senior SS

WILDCAT NEWCOMERS WORTH WATCHING:

Ty Rains = Freshman 2B

Anthony Everhart = Junior Utility player

According to Coach Rains, “We have many new faces to the varsity level, but I would be keeping an eye on these two individuals in particular.”

WILDCAT SEASON OUTLOOK:

Pre-season Reflections by Coach Rains:

“We have worked hard on just improving every day in practice.”

“Some of our guys have not played in well over 500 days.”

“I think we will be a well-balanced team, but we will have to be aware of mental mistakes and how we may respond to them because we will be such a young team, not by class but by experience.”

“I am excited to compete and truly believe we will hold our own.”

WILDCAT REFLECTION REVIEW:

The Moundridge Wildcat baseball team will be breaking in a new coach with a young team so maybe having a home field advantage will be a big thing for them early on as four of their first five outings will be on the home diamond in Moundridge.
