KONRADE, BONNEVILLE, HURLEY TO LEAD INMAN

By William

INMAN – The Inman softball program is in the hands of Coach Bre Ryan and in all truth, this will be only her second season in charge even though time wise it says three as the Lady Teutons, as did everyone else, lost their 2020 season to the pandemic.

While finishing just 1-16 two years ago, Coach Ryan is optimistic about the upcoming season and knows there will be many growing pains as the team lost a lot of players.

If you count the 2020 lost season due to the pandemic, this will be Coach Ryan’s third year as leader of the Lady Teuton softball program.

Since 2019 was her first year coaching the team, they finished just 1-16.

Here are the reflections Coach Ryan gave us regarding the lost season, players lost to graduation, returning players and newcomers as well as an honest look at what needs to be done for the 2021 season to be a success.

A BIT ABOUT THE LADY TEUTONS:

In 2019 the Lady Teutons finished just 1-16 and while Coach Ryan said the record does not reflect a successful season, she feels they were competitive with some of the best teams in the league and expects the Lady Teutons will do the same in 2021.

As the coach says, “We might get overlooked by some this year, and I think we will take some games from some of those teams that do that.”

KEY LOSSES BY THE LADY TEUTONS TO GRADUATION OR TRANSFERS:

Among the key losses to graduation for the Lady Teutons are:

  • Rachel Harman = a starting catcher.
  • Hope Schriner = a pitcher/infielder.
  • Ashtyn Schroeder = the team’s centerfielder.
  • Emma Froese = the team’s leftfielder.

As Coach Ryan noted, “All four girls were both leaders in terms of their abilities and talents as well as being vocal and positive teammates.”

LADY TEUTONS CONSIDERED KEY RETURNING PLAYERS:

Among a handful of returning players that Coach Ryan will be counting on for team leadership and play on the field are:

  • Halee Konrade = a senior infielder.
  • Kylee Bronneville = a senior first baseman.
  • Jaylah Hurley = a senior infielder/catcher.

LADY TEUTON NEWCOMERS WORTH WATCHING:

According to Coach Ryan the one girl worth keeping an eye on that will be new to the Lady Teuton program is:

  • Emma Brown = a sophomore pitcher who will be asked to take on a great load of the pitching this season. Coach Ryan says Brown is a player to watch both when in the pitchers circle and while at the plate with a bat in her hands.

HOW THE LADY TEUTON SEASON LOOKS FOR 2021:

Coach Ryan had the following reflections on her outlook for the upcoming 2021 season:

  • “This year we have several underclassmen stepping into positions where they do not have a not of previous experience and they did not have the chance to build their skills last season when it was lost to the pandemic.”
  • “I do think we will have some girls that will step up and surprise people.”
  • “Yes, we will make mistakes just because we are going to be a young team, but if we learn from those mistakes and take our best team into the post-season, I can live with those made mistakes.”
  • “One thing I know about this group of girls is that they are not afraid to try new things if it will help the team overall as they are not afraid of hard work.”

A LADY TEUTON REFLECTION REVIEW:

At this point it appears to be a lot of unknowns about the Lady Teuton softball team that will take the field in 2021, but if you go by the attitude and confidence in the reflections given by Coach Bre Ryan – the Lady Teutons could surprise many this spring.
