CANTON – After losing out in their home 2021 season opener due to weather, the Canton/Galva baseball team scored a pair of decisive home wins over Remington on Tuesday, taking a 15-5 win in game one before holding off a late Remington rally in game two to record a 12-9 victory in the nightcap.

In GAME ONE, the Eagles fell behind 3-2 after two innings before pushing across three runs in the third, seven in the fourth and another three in the fifth to power their way to a commanding 15-5 win.

Keaton Littrell went the distance on the mound for Canton/Galva, throwing 103 pitches while giving up seven hits, four earned runs and walking three plus striking out five.

The Eagles hammered the Remington pitchers for 16 hits in scoring their 15 runs. It helped that the Remington pitchers walked a whopping 11 batters.

Garrett Maltbie led the Canton/Galva offense with four hits while Littrell, Andrew Prieb, Brandon Huff, and Chase French all got a pair of hits as well with Huff and Maltbie each powering out a pair of doubles while Prieb blasted for one. Both Maltbie and Littrell also drove across three runs each in the effort.

Holding a 10-1 advantage after five innings in GAME TWO, the Eagles held off a furious Remington rally in the top of the sixth when they scored eight runs and pulled to within a run before Canton/Galva managed to add a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning to get the 12-9 victory.

Maltbie, Braison Alcala and Ryder Norstrom took the mound in the second outing for the Eagles and threw a total of 131 pitches, giving up just six hits and four earned runs while walking six and striking out 10 with Maltbie getting seven of the strikeouts.

Chase French led the Eagle bats with three hits and three runs batted in while Brayden Collins powered out two doubles and both Brandon Huff and Alcala reached base on four walks each.
