INMAN – You can’t get much closer than one run in a baseball game and that is how both ends of a doubleheader finished on Tuesday in Inman between the Inman Teutons and the visiting Little River Redskins as the Redskins won game one 9-8 before the Teutons earned a 6-5 victory in the nightcap.

In GAME ONE, the Teutons scored all eight of their runs spread out over the final five innings but gave up five big runs in the top of the sixth to the Redskins and ended up losing 9-8.

Jayden Garrison started on the mound for Little River with Braden Young coming in for the middle three innings while Graham Stephens closed it out as they combined to throw 147 pitches, gave up 11 hits, just four earned runs while walking one and striking out 12.

For Inman, Kyler Konrade and Landen Snyder worked the mound and threw 156 pitches with just three hits, five earned runs and nine strikeouts, but they did walk seven.

“It was a tough loss against a strong Little River team,” noted Inman head coach Matt Mikulecky. “We just struggled to get going on all fronts. We seemed tight and flat and constantly put ourselves in bad situations. We were not sharp on the mound and Little River made us pay for those free bases. We also made a couple of costly errors that put us in a big hole in the sixth inning and we just could not overcome it.”

Graham Stephens led the Little River bats with a two-run double while Keaton Richardson and Jayden Garrison each swiped two bases of the teams seven total stolen bases.

For Inman, the Teutons had some well executed situational hitting in game one with Carter Brown, Kyler Konrade and Brant Mikulecky each collecting a pair of hits while accounting for five of the teams

A bright spot was some well executed situational hitting.  Carter Brown, Kyler Konrade and Brant Mikulecky all collected 2 hits and accounted for 5 of our runs. Brown pounded out a triple while Konrade and Jayden Leonhardt each hit for doubles.

GAME TWO, Inman jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the first and then added a pair of runs in the fourth before hanging on for the final 6-5 win.

Grant Stephens and Ty Herzog were on the mound for the Redskins, and they threw 116 pitches, gave up six hits, just 2 earned runs while striking out five and walking four.

At the plate, Graham Stephens had a pair of hits including a double and a triple to lead Little River while Cooper Weis also powered out a double.

For the winning Teutons, Carson Munoz was nearly unstoppable on the mound as he struck out 10 and earned the win while Derick Johnson and Carter Brown finished out the final two innings with Brown getting credit for a save. The threesome tossed 125 pitches, gave up just five hits and two earned runs.

At the plate, Carter Brown, Derick Johnson, and Kyler Konrade lead the Teutons with two hits each while Konrade blasted out a double.

Teuton coach Mikulecky concluded his post-game reflections by noting, “The second game was a grind, but we pitched the baseball better in game two. Carson (Munoz) was excellent once again by going five innings and only walking one while striking out 10 to get his second win of the season.”

Next up for the Redskins will be a battle with Canton/Galva on the road Thursday, while Inman has a week off before traveling to Ell-Saline on Tuesday, April 6.
