MCPHERSON – It was a rough opening day for the McPherson Middle School boys tennis team as they dropped a matchup with Newton 19-4.

The Junior Pups won just two matches in singles and just two in doubles with Bryson Archer and Alex Hundley getting the wins in singles competitions while the duos of Owen Neighbors and Alex Hundley plus Jeremy Elbert and Owen Neighbors each scored wins in doubles.

“Tonight, we didn’t start off the season the way we wanted to,” noted Junior Pups head coach Paul Reichenberger. “We committed way too many unforced errors and did not serve the ball well. For all the boys, this was their first tennis dual they have ever played in, so the nerves were very real tonight. We will look to bounce back next week in the two tournaments we will play in.”

Next up for the Junior Pups boys tennis team will be Tuesday on the road at Salina South and then on Thursday a return trip north to tangle with Salina Lakewood.
