PUT UP 25 RUNS, 24 HITS IN GAME ONE

HILLSBORO – The Smoky Valley softball team played a tale of two games on Tuesday as they scored a dominating 25-12 win on the road at Hillsboro in game one before stumbling 25-9 in game two to split the doubleheader.

In GAME ONE, the Lady Vikings spotted Hillsboro one run in the first inning before putting nine runs on the board in the top of the third to take a solid 9-5 lead after Hillsboro added four runs to their total in the bottom of the inning. After Hillsboro pulled with in one in the fourth, Smoky Valley added a run in the fifth, three in the sixth and then erupted for 12 runs in the top of the seventh to score the final 13-run win.

Karee Adam pitched the distance for Smoky Valley and earned her third win of the season without a loss.

Olivia Morgan led the Lady Vikings at the plate by going 5-for-5 with a pair of doubles while Madi Tolle had a double among her four hits while scoring four times. Maliyah Koster, Catherine Odell, Kerington Haxton and Ava Broxterman all recorded three hits as Smoky Valley pounded the Hillsboro pitching for 24 hits overall. Koster had both a double and a triple while Broxterman smacked out a pair of doubles.

For GAME TWO, it was a different showing for the Lady Vikings as they struggled and only recorded four hits while the defense committed six errors, all of which helped Hillsboro roll up 15 hits on their way to 25 runs and the decisive 25-9 win.

Now 4-2 for the season, the Lady Vikings return to the competitive diamond on Friday when they play host to Lyons.

Kerington Haxton = had 3 hits including a double, scored 3 runs, 4 runs batted in.

Ava Broxterman = had 3 hits including 2 doubles, scored 3 runs, 4 runs batted in.

Addie Heitschmidt = had 2 hits, scored 2 runs, 2 runs batted in.

Claire Broxterman = scored 2 runs.
