SNYDER, JOHNSON THROW NO-HITTER

By William

BROOKVILLE – The Inman baseball team was solid at the plate on Tuesday, but they were even more solid on the mound as they swept a doubleheader on the road at Ell-Saline by winning game one 18-0 as Landen Snyder and Derick Johnson combined to throw a no-hitter before the Teutons shutout the home team in the nightcap with a 12-0, one-hit win.

The Teutons improved their season mark to 5-1 with the doubleheader sweep.

In GAME ONE, the story was the work on the mound of Snyder and Johnson as they needed just 75 pitches to get through the game, throwing a no-hitter while walking just a pair of batters and striking out nine. Since Ell-Saline only sent 15 batters to the plate that averaged out to just five pitches per batter to take care of the game.

Overall, the Teutons scored a pair of runs in the first then broke open for seven in the third before getting another pair in the fourth and then finishing out the game with seven more runs in the top of the fifth.

In pounding out 16 hits, Jayden Leonhardt accounted for three while Kyler Konrade, Johnson, Carson Munoz, Snyder, and Brant Mikulecky each recorded a pair of hits. Konrade had two doubles while Munoz hammered out a home run.

“It was good to open league play with a win,” explained Teuton head coach Matt Mikulecky. “the boys played good baseball tonight. Both Landen Snyder and Derick Johnson were sharp on the mound and pounded the zone as they combined for a no-hit shutout. We were productive up and down the lineup which is something we need to maintain if we want to be a really good team down the stretch.”

Carson Munoz, Kyler Konrade and Carter Brown worked the mound in GAME TWO for Inman and shutdown Ell-Saline once again, this time with a one-hitter as the three threw 89 pitches, walked just three and struck out 13.

The Teutons put five runs on the scoreboard in the top of the second inning and never looked back, adding seven more runs over the next three innings to gain the 12-0 victory.

At the plate, Kyler Konrade and Carson Munoz each collected a pair of hits while Munoz, Carter Brown and Sammy Shober each rapped out doubles.

Coach Mikulecky concluded his post-game reflections by adding, “I thought we lost our discipline at the plate a little bit in game two, hitting too many pop-ups and weak ground balls. (Carson) Munoz and (Kyler) Konrade stayed hot with each going 2-for-3 while Munoz struck out seven in going 3-0 for the season on the mound while Konrade and (Carter) Brown combined to strikeout six in relief. I also want to tip my cap to Jayden Leonhardt behind the plate as he has thrown out several runners already this season and keeps teams honest on the bases. He is a difference maker back there.”

Next up for the Teutons will be a at home on Friday when they play host to Marion.
