ELYRIA GETS 3 GOLDS, INMAN TAKES 5 GOLD

STERLING – Running against a strong five team field and mother nature and her wind, both the Inman and Elyria Christian track/field teams did their best to keep up on Tuesday at the Sterling Invitational.

The Inman boys finished fourth with 96 points, well behind team champion Berean Academy with 171.75 points. Halstead (135.25) took second while Sterling finished third (126) and the Eagles of Elyria Christian placed fifth with 22 points.

The Eagle boys only point placed in six events with the highest finish being a third-place spot by Grant Peters in the 300 Meter Hurdles.

For the Teutons, Tanner Heckel won the triple jump while finishing second in the long jump just ahead of teammate Dawson Mannebach who placed third, Mannebach also placed second behind Heckel in the triple jump. Other second-place finishes were Jace Doerksen in the 110 hurdles, Kellen Schrag in the 300 hurdles, Grant Thimmesch in the javelin as well as the 4×400 and 4×800 meter relay teams.

In the girls division, Berean Academy made it a clean sweep by placing first with 139.5 points, while Sterling finished second (118), and the Lady Teutons placed third with 109.5 points. The Lady Eagles ended up fifth with 79, just behind Halstead who had 89.

The Lady Eagles were led by Kayla Peters who took gold in the 1,600 meters and the high jump while teammate Hannah Froese placed second in the high jump as well. Olivia Peters also scored a gold in the 100 meters while just missing out with a second-place finish in the 400 meters. The Lady Eagle 4×100 meter relay team also placed second.

For the Lady Teutons, they were led by Brylee Mannebach who won both the long jump and triple jump while Dantlie Raney won the javelin and Madilyn Heflin took first in the 100 hurdles. Claire Thiessen had three silver medals as she placed second in the discus, shot put and javelin while the Inman girls 4×400 meter relay quartet also took second.
