INMAN – It was not a great night for baseball with the wind and cold, but Inman managed to prevail at home with a clean sweep of both ends of a doubleheader with Marion, winning game one 11-5 before taking game two 11-7.

By sweeping the doubleheader, the Teutons have now won five games in a row and are 7-1 for the season.

In GAME ONE, Kyler Konrade went 2-for-3 with a double and home run to help lead the Teutons to the six-run victory.

Inman spotted Marion for two runs in the top of the first before pushing across five runs in the bottom of the inning and then added single runs over three of the next four innings before closing out the win with a three run sixth inning.

Jayden Leonhardt went 2-for-4 with both hits being doubles as he got credit for five runs batted in.

Landen Snyder got the win on the mound while Carter Brown came in and earned the save at the end as the two held Marion to just three hits while striking out a total of six.

“Brutal conditions tonight with the weather but the boys played hard and competed through it,” noted Teuton head coach Matt Mikulecky. “We had some timely hits and ran the bases well. I am not happy with the free-90s that we were giving up, but we were able to pitch our way out and limit the damage. (Landen) Snyder gave us a strong start and earned a big win and (Carter) Brown slammed the door in the seventh. (Kyler) Konrade continues to amaze me as he is hitting for extra bases a a clip you won’t see very often. His homer to right field was a missile. Jayden (Leonhardt) was huge for us driving in five runs.”

Again, Inman spotted Marion a pair of runs in the top of the first inning of GAME TWO before powering across six runs in the bottom of the inning. The Teutons then put five runs on the board over the next three innings before holding off Marion in the fifth to earn the final 11-7 win and the doubleheader sweep.

Carson Munoz got the win on the mound giving up just three hits and two earned runs while striking out six for Inman before Kyler Konrade came in late to get the save.

Carter Brown went 2-for-2 with two runs batted in to lead the Teuton hitting, while Derick Johnson hit for a triple and Landen Snyder swiped three bases.

Coach Mikulecky concluded his post-game reflections by adding, “It was Jeckyl and Hyde in the second game as we played quality baseball for four innings and then just lost all focus and acted like the game was over in the final inning. (Carson) Munoz was a bulldog on the mound again as he battled through some adversity and settled in for a quality start against a scrappy Marion lineup. Offensively, we hit the ball fairly well, but Marion made some very nice plays, so we had to work hard for our five hits. You will not see it in the box score, but we had some big at-bats where guys ‘did-the-job’ and drove in runs with situational hitting. Those runs are what allowed us to hold on for the win.”

Next up for the Teutons will be on Tuesday when they travel to play Sedgwick.
