STUCKY, SCHLOSSER LEAD MOUNDRIDGE

By William

MOUNDRIDGE – The Moundridge baseball team made a statement in their home game with Ell-Saline on Friday by holding off a couple of rallies and doubling up on the visitors to a tune of a 20-10 victory.

Due to weather the second game of the doubleheader was postponed.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning before Ell-Saline pushed three across in the top of the second to pull within one. Moundridge then added a run in the bottom of the second and then poured across five more in the third to take a comfortable 10-3 advantage midway through the game.

Ell-Saline just would not go away though and they tallied four runs in the fourth and after holding the Wildcats to just one run in the bottom of the fourth, they added three more in the top of the fifth to stay within one run of the home team.

It was then that the Wildcats put the game away with four runs in the fifth and another five in the sixth to clinch the 10-run win.

As a team the Wildcats had 22 hits in the game on 38 at bats including five doubles and trwo triples while only striking out four times and getting six walks.

Dawson Stucky and Jon Schlosser both had a huge night at the plate for the Wildcats as both went 4-for-5 with Stucky getting a pair of doubles and a triple while knocking in two runs and scoring three while Schlosser had one double, one triple, knocked in two runs and scored three times.

Anthony Everhart went 3-for-4, recorded three runs batted in, scored twice and stole three bases while Wyatt Falco went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs batted in and scoring twice as well.

Also picking up a pair of hits in the game were Ty Rains, Ethan Brandeweide, and Logan Churchill with Rains getting a double.

Wyatt Falco started on the mound and went three innings before Brandeweide covered the final three innings. The two combined to give up 10 earned runs on 11 hits while walking just six and striking out 12, including nine by Falco.

Wildcat head coach Jason Rains had many compliments to go around as he reflected on the game by saying, “(Ty) Rains had a solid night for our Moundridge boys. The offense finally came alive for us tonight as we totaled over 20 hits in the game. We played decent defense with the exception of maybe a couple of innings. We still need to learn how to lock down and focus more while on defense, but we looked much better tonight.”

The Wildcats will be back in action on Monday when they travel to Oxford.
