SNYDER, MUNOZ PITCH STRONG GAMES

By William

SEDGWICK – It was a tough day for the Inman baseball team as they struggled to get the offense going and struggled on defense in game one as they split a road doubleheader at Sedgwick on Tuesday, losing the first game 8-3 before winning the nightcap 4-1.

The Teuton defense in GAME ONE recorded five errors which led to five unearned runs by Sedgwick in the 8-3 loss.

Sedgwick took a 4-1 lead over Inman after the first inning and then added a pair of runs in the third and fifth innings to gain their victory.

“We got down early and just could not get anything going against their pitcher,” explained Teuton head coach Matt Mikulecky. “It is tough to string together hits against a guy like that as he pitched us extremely well and I thought we allowed him to be the aggressor and failed to make any adjustments at the plate.”

Derick Johnson was the one bright spot at the plate for Inman as he had a pair of hits, knocked in a run and scored a run while stealing a base.

Landen Snyder worked the first 4-plus innings on the mound for the Teutons before giving way to Johnson to close the game out. Snyder took the loss despite striking out six and giving up just three hits and three earned runs.

Coach Mikulecky acknowledge the work on the mound by noting, “Landen (Snyder) battled his heart out there and pitched well enough to give us a chance, but we made a couple of errors that hurt us and just could not put a rally together.”

After Inman spotted Sedgwick one run in the bottom of the first, they shut them down after that and scored a single run in the second and third before added on two more in the sixth to seal the 4-1 GAME TWO victory.

Carson Munoz went the first 4.2 innings on the mound for the Teutons and gave up just five hits and one run while striking out nine to record the win. Carter Brown and Kyler Konrade came on to finish out the game with Konrade getting credit for a save.

Coach Mikulecky said, “Carson (Munoz) put us on his back and carried us to a huge league win in game two. He pitched a stellar game against a potent Sedgwick lineup. He has great stuff, but I think his mental makeup is what impressed me the most tonight. He worked out of some jams and never got rattled.”

Winning the game while only getting four hits was something as Brant Mikulecky had two of the teams hits while Derick Johnson stole three bases to lead the Inman offense.

Concluding his post-game reflections, Mikulecky added, “Offensively, we struggled at the plate which was very disappointing because we had runners at second and third with no outs twice and did not manufacture a single run. Sedgwick has to be one of the best teams in Class 2-1A and I was proud of how our guys competed in both games. We found a way to split on the road against them and put ourselves in a good position for the back half of the season.”

Now 8-2 for the season, the Teutons will be back on the competitive diamond on Friday when they travel to Moundridge.
