EMMA BROWN THROWS TWO VICTORIES
By William
INMNA – Moving the game up to Thursday due to some upcoming weather issues did not seem to affect the Inman softball team as they finally found their offense again and blistered Sterling pitching for 23 runs in two games to sweep a doubleheader at home with 11-6 and 12-11 victories.
The two wins also breaks a seven-game losing streak by the Lady Teutons after they began the season with three straight wins.
In GAME ONE, the Lady Teutons knicked Sterling pitching for 11 hits and 11 runs, most coming after spotting the visitors a 3-0 lead after the top-half of the third inning. Inman put two runs on the board in the third, then added four in the fourth, three in the fifth and another two in the sixth before holding off a small three-run rally by Sterling in the seventh to get the 11-6 win.
Emma Brown went the distance for Inman on the mound, throwing 114 pitches, giving up six hits, five earned runs and a pair of walks while striking out 10.
Joee Hurley topped the Lady Teutons offense with three hits and three runs batted in plus a pair of runs scored while Kylee Bonneville powered both of her two hits into doubles and three runs batted in. Lexi Milne also had a pair of hits for Inman.
The nightcap was a different story as the Lady Teutons only garnered two hits in GAME TWO but scored 12 runs, six of those unearned as they took advantage of six Sterling errors on defense and 11 walks by the Sterling pitching staff.
Inman spotted Sterling a pair of runs in the top of the first before putting seven runs on the board in the bottom of the inning and then held a 7-3 lead into the fourth when both teams scored a pair of runs. When Sterling put four runs on the board in the top of the fifth inning to tie the score at 9-9, the Lady Teutons added two to their total and then one more in the sixth to keep a slim 12-9 before holding off a pair of Sterling runs in the seventh to gain the one-run win.
Once again, Brown went the distance on the mound for the Lady Teutons, this time throwing a whopping 173 pitches. She gave up 10 hits, eight earned runs and walked six while striking out another 10, giving her 20 strikeouts for the day.
Only Halee Konrade and Jaylah Hurley had hits for Inman, with Konrade’s being a towering double.
With the two wins, the Lady Teutons are now 5-7 overall as they prep for a road trip on Tuesday to Remington.
