NOW 7-2 FOR THE SEASON, ADAM RECORDS 5TH & 6TH WINS

HALSTEAD – The Smoky Valley softball team continues to roll and Karee Adam continues to gather up the wins as the Lady Vikings traveled to Halstead on Thursday and scored a dominating doubleheader sweep with wins of 13-7 and 20-6.

Adam pitched both games and remained unbeaten for the season by winning her fifth and sixth games.

In GAME ONE, the Lady Vikings put up nine runs on the scoreboard in the top of the second inning and while Halstead scored six in the third and one in the fifth, Smoky Valley added four more in the sixth to gain the 13-7 win.

Smoky Valley took advantage of nine defensive errors by Halstead in scoring their 13 runs on 11 hits.

Madi Tolle led the Lady Viking bats in the first outing by getting three hits and knocking in three runs thanks to a double and a home run. Maliyah Koster also recorded three runs batted with her own home run while Addie Heithschmidt had a pair of hits that included a double.

After spotting Halstead three runs in the first inning, the Lady Vikings poured nine runs across the plate in the top of the second inning in GAME TWO and then added another four in the third to take a commanding 13-4 advantage. Halstead managed to get two more runs across in the fifth, but Smoky Valley powered across an additional seven runs in the top of the seventh to earn the dominating 20-6 nightcap victory.

Claire Broxterman, Addie Heitschmidt, and Ava Broxterman each recorded three hits in the nightcap as the Lady Vikings dinged the Halstead pitching for 18 hits overall while also taking advantage of seven more errors on their defense.

Catherine Odell, Olivia Morgan, and Madi Tolle each had a pair of hits in the game with Claire Broxterman and Heitschmidt each pounding out triples while Odell, Tolle, Koster, Heitschmidt and Ava Broxterman each hit for doubles.

Claire Broxterman also earned credit for four runs batted in while Kerington Haxton had three while also scoring four times.

With the two wins, the Lady Vikings are now 7-2 for the season overall and 7-2 within the Central Kansas League games. Next up will be a road trip to Larned on Friday, April 23.
