MMS JUNIOR PUPS WIN 3 OF 4 DIVISON AT INVITATIONAL

7TH & 8^TH GRADE GIRLS GET 12 GOLDS, 7^TH GRADE BOYS EARN 5

MCPHERSON – At the McPherson Middle School Track Invitational on Thursday, the Junior Pups scored team championships in three of the four divisions with both the 7^th and 8^th grade Junior Lady Pups taking team wins along with the 7^th grade Junior Pup boys.

“Overall, we won three of four divisions and the one division we didn’t win in our meet, none of our league opponents beat us so that shows well for the end of the year,” noted Junior Pup head coach TJ Jackson. “After going through all the results, we saw loads of person records and some even when we had people fill in on relays at the last second. Mostly proud of the fact that our kids not only performed well, but also supported their teammates better than any team there.”

For the 7^th grade Junior Lady Pups, they scored 141 points to finish first ahead of second-place Circle with 126.

Andi Buschbom took first in the 400 meters while Elley Paulson earned individual gold in the 200- meter hurdles and the 4×100 and 4×400 meter relay teams also took first for the 7^th grade Junior Lady Pups.

The 8^th grade Junior Lady Pups racked up 193 points in winning their division with second-place Salina South a good 46 points behind.

Addison Chapman in the 100 meters, Izabel Backhus in the 400 meters, Ada Prose in the 800 meters, and Cora Pavlovich in the long jump all won individual gold while the 8^th grade Junior Lady Pups swept all four of the relays as well.

In the 7^th grade Junior Pup division, McPherson outdistanced Salina South 142-129 to win the team standings while Kaizer Kanitz scored two individual golds by winning the high jump and long jump.

Both Trevor Pontious in the 400 meters, and Keaton Crane in the 200 meter hurdles also took individual gold while the 4×400 meter relay quartet of Jackson Anderson, Carter Boesker, Pontious and Jett Pyle also took gold.

The 8^th grade Junior Pups finished third in their division with 67.5 points as Goddard Eisenhower blew away the field with 249 points to take the team title and Circle finished second with 72 points.

Coach Jackson concluded his post-meet reflections by acknowledging those who helped make the meet possible, saying, “I would like to give a big thank you to Coach Pavlovich and the high school athletes who volunteered to run the events, and to Coach Alexander and the college athletes who volunteered their time to run our events as well. Without them there is no way our meet could go as well as it does. Parents volunteered their time to help run conessions and especially Karen Rodriguez who gave several hours of time to help the Middle School raise money for the activities department.”

The McPherson Middle School Junior Pup track/field team will be back in action on Tuesday at the Hutchinson Invitational.
