BROWN GETS 6 HITS, JOHNSON TIES SCHOOL RECORD FOR STOLEN BASES

REMINGTON – Getting their games in on Monday, a day before poor weather, the Inman baseball team made short order of its road trip to Remington as they hammered their way to a doubleheader sweep by scores of 18-2 in game one and 17-2 in game two.

In GAME ONE, the Teutons scored 13 runs in the first two innings to cruise to the commanding final 16-run victory.

“We hit the ball very well tonight,” noted Teuton Head Coach Matt Mikulecky. “Everyone had quality at-bats and we hit the ball all over the field. It was great to see disciplined at-bats and consistent hard contact. The guys got back to having a good approach and it paid off.”

Kyler Konrade got the win on the mound for Inman, going four innings and striking out eight before giving way to Brant Mikulecky for the final inning. Between the two pitchers the Teutons only gave up seven hits, one earned run and walked nobody.

At the plate, Carter Brown led the team by pounding out a triple as he went 3-for-3 with three runs batted in, three stolen bases and scored three times himself. Landen Snyder also had three hits, including a double while both Konrade and Carson Munoz also hit doubles and recorded two hits in the first game. Derick Johnson had but one hit, but walked once, hit for a double, scored four times and stole a whopping six bases.

GAME TWO was much the same as the Teutons dinged the Remington pitchers for another 12 hits and put 16 of their 17 runs on the scoreboard in the middle innings with seven in the second, five in the third and four in the fourth on their way to a 15-run win.

Jayden Leonhardt and Derick Johnson took care of things on the mound, combining to throw 105 pitches while giving up just a pair of hits, two earned runs, walking five and striking out 11 with Leonhardt recording seven.

Coach Mikulecky continued his praises in his game reflections by saying, “I was pleased that we did not let off the pedal in game two. Always worry that a team will lose focus after a big win, but we came out aggressive and got the offense going after a scoreless first inning. (Jayden) Leonhardt gave us a strong outing in his first start of the season. He works his tail off behind the plate, so it was great to see him get a chance to pitch instead. (Derick) Johnson came in and filled up the zone to close out the final two innings as he was extremely sharp tonight and continues to be big for us in relief.”

Carter Brown had another three-hit, three runs batted in game, giving him six hits in eight at-bats and six runs batted in for the night while Johnson also had three hits including another double while getting three runs batted in and stealing another four bases. Kyler Konrade powered out a triple while recorded four runs batted in and scoring three times and both Leonhardt and Carson Munoz put two hits in the stat sheet with one double each.

With his 10 stolen bases in the doubleheader, Johnson tied the school record with 26 stolen bases.

Mikulecky concluded his reflections by adding, “Carter (Brown) had a huge night at the plate with six hits and six runs batted in while Derick (Johnson) stole four more bases in game two to tie our school record of 26. I am so happy for him because he takes so much pride in his baserunning and works hard at it.”

Now 10-2 for the season, the Teutons will be off for a week before returning to the competitive diamond with a home doubleheader against cross-county rival Moundridge.
