GARRISON GETS 4 HITS

By William

LITTLE RIVER – Playing for the first time in eight days due to weather, the Little River baseball team hosted Ellsworth and split a doubleheader on Friday, winning game one 3-2 before dropping the nightcap 6-3.

Now 9-3 for the season, the Redskins will be back on the competitive diamond on Tuesday when they make a road trip to Spearville.

In GAME ONE, the Redskins and Ellsworth were tied after one and stayed that way until Little River was able to knock a run across in the fifth, but the visitors tied it in the sixth and then scored on an error in the bottom of the seventh to get the one-run win.

Jayden Garrison was on the mound to start for the Redskins and went five innings before Graham Stephens came in for the final two. The two combined to allow just five hits and one earned run while striking out four and walking just two.

The Redskin defense committed five errors.

At the plate Stephens led the way with a pair of hits, including a double.

Ellsworth jumped on the scoreboard with three runs in the first inning of GAME TWO, and while Little River scored one run in the bottom of the inning, Ellsworth added another in the top of the second to take a 4-1 advantage. The Redskins added two more runs in the bottom of the third, but it was not enough as the visitors put one more run on the scoreboard in the fourth and seventh to ice the 6-3 victory.

Despite pitching the final couple of innings in game one, Graham Stephens had the start on the mound for Little River and went just two innings before Braden Young came in and finished out the final five innings. The duo gave up a total of eight hits, struck out three and walked two while giving up just one earned run thanks to the Redskins defense committing six errors, giving them a total of 11 in the two games.

Jayden Garrison knocked out a pair of hits, including a double to lead the Redskin bats.
