LINDSBORG – The Smoky Valley softball team continues to make the plays that count and by sweeping a home field doubleheader with Southeast of Saline on Monday, 5-1 and 13-12, they are now 11-2 for the season.

In GAME ONE, it was the Karee Adam show again on the mound as she gave up nine hits but the Lady Viking defense only allowed two runs to give Karee her eighth win of the season.

Smoky Valley scored twice in the second, once in the fourth after Southeast of Saline tied the game in the top of the inning, and then added two more runs in the fifth to earn the 5-2 victory.

The Lady Viking offense was led by Maliyah Koster who had a pair of hits while both Addie Heitschmidt and Abby Hipp smacked out doubles.

GAME TWO was a nail biter for the Lady Vikings as they took a four-run lead in the second inning only to have Southeast of Saline put five runs on the board in the top of the third to take a temporary one-run advantage. In the bottom of the fourth, Smoky Valley added four runs to their total to take a three-run lead only to see Southeast of Saline add two in the top of the fifth to pull back within a run before the Lady Vikings added another run in the bottom of the sixth to take a two-run lead into the seventh inning.

After Southeast of Saline poured across five runs in the top of the seventh and take a 12-9 lead, the Lady Vikings reached deep for some grit and but three runs on the board to tie it with two outs when Kerington Haxton hit for a single and knocked in the game winning run.

Karee Adam took the mound to start and had a rare off day before Maggie Ryals came on in the sixth to finish the game and end up earning the win.

The Lady Vikings smacked out 12 hits in the second game with Maliyah Koster and Addie Heitschmidt each getting three hits and three runs batted in while one of Heithschmidt’s hits was a double.

Claire Broxterman hit for a double while Catherine Odell, Madi Tolle, Hope Duncan, Allison Hipp and Abby Hipp all scored twice in the contest.

The Lady Vikings are now a sparkling 11-2 on the season and 11-2 in Central Kansas League games. They will be back on the competitive diamond on Friday when they travel to Hesston.
