SPEARVILLE – No blowouts on Tuesday for the Little River baseball team as they went on the road and came home with a sweep of a doubleheader at Spearville, winning game one 8-3 before holding off a late inning rally by the home team to win the nightcap 7-5.

Now 11-3 for the season, the Redskins will be home on Thursday to host Moundridge.

In GAME ONE, the Redskins put a cushion of five runs on the board in the top of the first inning and then added a run in the second and one in the fifth on their way to a five-run, 8-3 win.

Jayden Garrison worked the mound for Little River and threw 99 pitches while giving up 10 hits but just three earned runs, walked just one and struck out six.

Offensively, the Redskins were led by Kaden Schafer and Grant Stephens who each had a pair of hits with Stephens pounding out a triple while Schafer took credit for three runs batted in and Graham Stephens scored three times.

Braden Young began GAME TWO on the mound for the Redskins and went six innings, threw 101 pitches, gave up nine hits two earned runs and struck out four before giving way to Graham Stephens for the final inning.

While Little River put a run on the board in the top of the first, Spearville put two up in the bottom of the inning to take a short-lived lead before the Redskins added a pair of runs in the second and three more in the third before getting one more for insurance in the fifth to hold a 7-2 advantage going into the final two innings.

Spearville tried to come back, scoring twice in the sixth and once in the seventh before Little River held on for the two-run victory. Spearville did nick the Redskin pitching for a pair of doubles, a triple and even a home run.

At the plate, Graham Stephens went 3-for-3 with a triple while Garrison and Dalton Mantz each supplied a pair of hits with Mantz accounting for three runs batted in. Keaton Richardson had a double.
