MOUNDRIDGE – Taking advantage of defensive miscues and walks by Canton/Galva, the Moundridge softball team scored an easy two-game sweep of home games on Friday with wins of 6-0 and 17-2.
In GAME ONE, the Lady Wildcats only needed six hits and a pair of runs in the third plus four in the bottom of the sixth to earn the low-scoring, 6-0 shutout victory over the Lady Eagles.
While Brecken Pearson struggled finding the strike zone on the mound for Canton/Galva and walked 11 batters, McKenzie Elmore worked all seven innings for the Lady Wildcats and pitched a four-hit, two walk shutout, while striking out 10.
Pearson had a triple for the Lady Eagles to highlight their time at the plate.
For Moundridge, Reese Schmidt may have been the lone batter with two hits, both Erin Durst and Kate Eichelberger stroked doubles while Mckenzie Elmore walked three times and Alea Durst stole three bases.
The Lady Wildcats scored in each of the four innings of GAME TWO as they put up four runs on the board in the first, and a pair in the second before pushing across five in the third and six more in the fourth to get the run-rule, 17-2 win.
Canton/Glava had Taygen O’Hara on the mound and while she only gave up nine hits and six earned runs, the Lady Eagle defense once again struggled, this time with eight errors.
O’Hara did have two hits in the game including a double while both Gracie Kidd and Emily Peterson also hit for doubles to lead what offense the Lady Eagles could muster.
Emily Durst pitched a four-hit, one earned run, no walk game for the Lady Wildcats while also helping her cause by going 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs batted in and four runs scored.
Both Erin Durst and Addi Falco hit for doubles while Erin Durst scored three times.
Moundridge is now 10-4 for the season and will travel to Hutchinson on Tuesday to battle with Hutchinson Trinity.
Canton/Galva will be back on the competitive diamond on Friday, May 7 when they play host to Hutchinson Trinity.
