PETERSON GETS TWO DOUBLES

CANTON – After getting blown out in game one, the Canton/Galva softball team bounced back and nearly caught a win in game two on Tuesday before losing late to Ell-Saline in a pair of rescheduled games.

In GAME ONE, Canton/Galva took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning before the wheels came off in the third when Ell-Saline poured across 20 runs to gain the 20-3 win.

Brecken Pearson began the game on the mound for the Lady Eagles before giving way to Taygen O’Hara, but neither pitcher was able to stop the Ell-Saline offense giving up 18 hits while walking seven.

Emily Peterson and Pearson each pounded out doubles for the Lady Eagles offense while Brinley Becker got two of the three runs batted in.

For GAME TWO, Ell-Saline scored twice in the first and once in the third and sixth before the Lady Eagles put a run on the board, but then Ell-Saline tacked on three more for the final 7-1 victory and the sweep of the doubleheader.

Pearson worked the mound the entire game for Canton/Galva and gave up 10 hits, four earned runs, walked five and struck out four. The Lady Eagle defense did not help as they committed four errors in the game.

Emily Peterson got her second double of the day while only five players had hits in the game.

The Lady Eagles have a busy week ahead of them as they were to play Thursday against Bennington in the make-up game, have a regular scheduled doubleheader on Friday with Hutchinson Trinity before playing a rescheduled matchup with Sterling on Monday and then closing out the regular season on Tuesday at Inman.
