CANTON – After a bump in the road the Canton/Galva softball team has risen again and closed out last week with a sweep on Tuesday of Bennington (9-6 and 14-0) and Hutchinson Trinity (5-4 and 9-8) on Friday.
Against Bennington, the Lady Eagles used a four run first inning and five run fourth inning to gain the 9-6 win in GAME ONE, thanks to two-hit games from Emily Peterson and Gracie Kidd and the pitching of Jordan Friesen.
Friesen went the distance and threw 133 pitches while holding Bennington to just four hits and three earned runs and striking out seven.
In GAME TWO, the Lady Eagles scored in every inning, including three in the third and five in the sixth to hold off Bennington for a 14-9 win as Canton/Galva made contact for 17 hits, including two doubles by Emily Peterson, triples by both Gracie Kidd and Taygen O’Hara and a home run from Brecken Pearson. Peterson, Kidd and Brinley Becker each recorded three hits in the game with Pearson getting credit for four runs batted in and Peterson scoring five times much to the help of her three stolen bases.
On Friday the Lady Eagles scored a sweep of Hutchinson Trinity, wining both games by one run including a 5-4 win in GAME ONE where they scored twice in the first and then pushed across three in the sixth to gain the victory.
Friesen pitched for Canton/Galva and threw 114 pitches, gave up six hits, three earned runs and four walks while striking out 10.
At the plate the Lady Eagles only had four hits with one of those being a two-run double by Brecken Pearson.
In GAME TWO, Canton/Galva scored two in the second, one run in each of the next three innings and four in the sixth before holding off Trinity getting four in the fourth and three in the seventh to get the one-run 9-8 win and sweep of Trinity.
Brecken Pearson threw 112 pitches on the mound for the Lady Eagles, giving up seven hits, six earned runs, seven walks and three strike outs.
Taygen O’Hara led the Lady Eagle bats with two hits, three runs batted in and two runs scored while both Gracie Kidd and Brooke Stephen also got credit for a pair of runs batted in while Madison Leach and Pearson each scored twice.
