BELLE PETERS, GRACIE LAMBERT SET MEET RECORDS

HESSTON – On one of the best weather days of the spring season, the Smoky Valley track/field teams performed extremely well on Friday at the Hesston Invitational with the Lady Vikings winning the team title while setting two meet records and five personal records in winning nine events while the Viking boys placed third as a team, won three events and set seven personal records.

The Smoky Valley girls took the team title with 155 points, well ahead of host Hesston with 116 and third-place Cheney at 95. Hillsboro, Halstead, Douglass and Haven were the other teams competing.

For the Lady Vikings, Belle Peters had a huge day once again as she won four individual events including the pole vault (setting a new meet record), the long jump, the 100 high hurdles and the 200 meters. In both the hurdles and 200 meters, she also set new personal records.

Others winning for the Lady Vikings were Keira Mullen in the javelin, Abby Rose in the 400 meters, Gracie Lambert in the 800 meters and both the 4×800 and 4×400 meter relay teams. Rose and Lambert also set new personal records as well.

On the boys side, the Vikings finished third in the team standings with 86 points, behind first-place Cheney with 151 and second-place Halstead with 96.

Ryan Heline led the Vikings by winning both the 800 and 3,200 meters while setting a new personal record in the 3,200 meters. Also winning for Smoky Valley was the 4×800 relay team. A total of five other Vikings set personal records for the performances at the meet.

Next up for the Viking track/field team will be on Thursday when they travel to Halstead for the Central Kansas League meet.
