BELLE PETERS GETS 4 GOLDS, RYAN HELINE EARNS 2

HALSTEAD – The Smoky Valley girls track/field team, led by Belle Peters four gold medals, dominated the Central Kansas League Meet on Thursday in Halstead, winning the team title by 47 points while the Smoky Valley boys finished fourth with 71 points as Ryan Heline earned two gold medals.
Taking six total individual gold medals and two team relay golds, the Lady Vikings racked up 125 total team points to second-place Hesston’s 78. Hoisington with 73, Halstead with 65 and Larned rounded out the top five of the ten teams competing.
Belle Peters continued her outstanding season by winning the 200 meters, 100-meter hurdles, the long jump and the pole vault to lead the Smoky Valley girls while Abby Rose won the 400 meters and Gracie Lambert took gold in the 800 meters. Both the 4×400 and 4×800 relay teams won as well with Rose, Keira Mullen, Kajsa Peterson and Lambert running the legs of the 4×400 meter relay and McKinley Johnson, Mullen, Rose and Lambert putting in the times for the winning 4×800 meter relay.
Smoky Valley not only won gold in eight events, 10 other individuals place in the top five of an event, including a second and fourth place finish in the pole vault behind Belle Peters by sisters Breanne and Noelle.
For the Smoky Valley boys, Ryan Heline brought home gold in both the 1,600 and 3,200 meters while the team placed in the top six 11 times in events as well to get them to 71 points and a fourth-place finish behind first-place Hesston with 100, second-place Halstead with 85 and third-place Hoisington with 75. Hillsboro with 70 rounded out the top five of the team standings.
The Smoky Valley track/field teams now prep for the State Regional Meet on Friday, May 21 in Beloit.
