HESSTON – The Smoky Valley softball team improved their season mark to 14-7 on Monday as they defeated Halstead 12-2 in Hesston at the Class 3A State Regionals.

Halstead took a 2-0 lead early with a run in both the top of the first and second innings before the Lady Vikings poured across four runs in the bottom of the second and then added a pair in each of the next two innings before pushing across four more in the fifth to earn the final 10-run, 12-2 victory.

Karee Adam got credit for her tenth win of the season on the mound for Smoky Valley with just three losses.

Claire Broxterman led the Lady Vikings offensive attack by going 3-for-3 with a double and a pair of runs batted in while Maliyah Koster and Catherine Odell each had two hits and three runs batted in with one of Koster’s hits being a double. Hope Duncan scored four times.

Next up for the Lady Vikings will be on Wednesday when they play Southeast of Saline in the regional semi-finals. If Smoky Valley wins they would then play the winner of the game between Haven and Hillsboro/Peabody/Burns for the regional championship.
