BELLE PETERS EARNS 4 INDIVIDUAL GOLD

BELOIT – It was not even close for the girls side of the Class 3A state regional track/field meet in Beloit on Friday as the Smoky Valley girls dominated the meet by winning seven events, including four by Belle Peters, and took the team title by a whopping 60 points while the Smoky Valley boys finished tied for fourth.
The Lady Vikings rolled up 112 team points while Hoisington was a distant second with just 52 points and Norton (49), Phillipsburg (48) and Hays-Thomas More Prep (47) rounded out the top five of 16 teams.
Besides the seven gold medals, the Smoky Valley girls scored a pair of second-place finishes, four place finishes and two sixth-place finishes.
Belle Peters once again dominated the meet as she scored 40 team points on her own by winning the 100 hurdles, 100 meters, 200 meters and the pole vault. Gracie Lambert also scored a gold by winning the 800 meters while both the 4×800 meter and 4×400 meter relay teams won as well. Breanne Peters finished second to her sister in both the 100 meters and pole vault while qualifying for state with a third-place finish in the long jump. Also qualifying for the state meet next week with third place finishes was the 4×100 meter relay quartet, Abby Rose in the 400 meters and McKinley Johnson in the 800 meters.
In the boys division, the Vikings finished tied for fourth with Seneca/Nemaha Central, both putting up 39 points. Southeast of Saline won the regional with 144 points while Hoisington and Hays-Thomas More Prep were the rest of the top three.
The Viking boys earned six spots at the state meet next week as Ryan Heline took second in the 3,200 meters and fourth in the 1,600 meters, Ki Blanchat finished fourth in the 400 meters, Kort Sjogren placed fourth in the javelin and the 4×800 and 4×400 relay teams go to state by finishing second and fourth, respectively.
