STEPHENSON, LAFFERTY TOP PERFORMERS

WICHITA – The youth movement dipped their toes into state level action on Saturday for the Little River track/field teams when a freshman and sophomore led the team at the Class 1A state track/field meet in Wichita.

Freshman Ashley Stephenson score the only points for the Lady Redskins when she finished fifth in the 800 meters while just missing points with a ninth-place finish in the triple jump.

For the Redskin boys, sophomore Braxton Lafferty placed seventh in the triple jump while missing out on points but getting close with a tenth place in the javelin.

Of the seven Little River athletes that competed at the state meet, only Lily Boughfman was considered an upperclassman as a junior with the majority of the group being freshman.

4×100 Meter Relay = 13th Lady Redskins 54.76 (Lily Boughfman, Kate Ellwood, Ashley Stephenson, Alaina Eck).

4×400 Meter Relay = 11th Lady Redskins 4:24.59 (Aubrey Olander, Kami Grasser, Alaina Eck, Ashley Stephenson).

Team = T-49th with 2 points along with Wichita Classical & Southern Coffee County. Overall Team Top-10 = 1st Hanover 55; 2nd Madison 48; 3rd Osborne 42; 4th Hamilton 41; 5th Olpe 36; 6th Beloit/St. John’s 35; 7th Macksville 34; 8th Meade 32; 9th La Crosse 30; 10th Jackson Heights 23.
