MCPHERSON – Outside of replacing one of the schools all-time best players, the McPherson girls tennis team looks strong with everyone else returning to make another run at a state title.

For 2021, the Lady Bullpups will return to Class 4A.

Gone is CeAnna Allen, and while she teamed up with Perrin Schneider to finish fifth at the 2020 state meet, in 2019 she paired with Taylor Bruce to go 35-0 and win a state doubles championship.

Thankfully for head coach Tyler Brown, the rest of the 2020 team returns including Schneider, Patty Huerta, who finished sixth in singles at state in 2020 along with the tandem of Maddie Dobson and Taylor Berger who were in the top-12 at state when it was shutdown due to the pandemic.

The Lady Bullpups will open the 2021 season on Thursday, August 26 when they compete at the Hesston Invitational.

Here is a full 2021 preview of the McPherson Lady Bullpup tennis team:

THE COACH:

Bullpup Head Coach is Tyler Brown

Brown is beginning his 10th season as head coach of the McPherson Bullpup tennis programs

WHAT TO EXPECT IN 2021:

Except for CeAnna Allen, the Lady Bullpup tennis team returns everyone from a squad that qualified for the state meet in 2020.

This includes Perrin Schneider who teamed up with Allen to finish fifth at state IN 2020, Patty Huerta who placed sixth in singles at state and the other doubles tandem of Taylor Berger and Maddie Dobson.

While dropping from Class 5A to Class 4A may help, Coach Brown notes that it is not because the competition isn’t tough, but because the lower class will have less depth and what the Lady Bullpups have will be depth.

Beyond the previously mentioned, McPherson also returns Sydney Achilles, Riggs Kuhn and Kyndall Sandbo to give Coach Brown several options as the season goes on.

To begin the 2021 season Coach Brown will be looking to pair Perrin Schneider with Patty Huerta for one of the doubles while Riggs Kuhn and Sydney Achilles will be the other doubles duo. Maddie Dobson and Taylor Berger will initially begin the season playing singles.
