MOUNDRIDGE – The Moundridge volleyball began the 2021 home season on Tuesday by hosting a set of matches with Ell-Saline in league play and finished the evening with a split of two matches.

Both matches went to three sets with the Lady Wildcats winning the first match 23-25, 25-22, 25-20, before dropping the second match 16-25, 25-17, 13-25.

“Overall, we played pretty well but we just need to find consistency on the court,” noted Lady Wildcat first-year head coach Brooke Bumgarner. “We have our highs and lows, and we need to stay evened out throughout the matches. We passed well for the majority of the night except for the last set of the second match and that affected our ability to get a good attack on the ball.”

Kate Eichelberger led the team in Kills with 23 while also scoring 16 digs and three blocks. Emily Durst made 36 assists and recorded 17 digs while Aubree Durst had 17 digs and nine kills.

Other stat leaders included Reese Schmidt with five kills, four aces and three blocks; Kaelyn Wedel with seven kills, three aces and 14 digs; and Avery Rice with 13 digs.

Coach Bumgarner concluded her post-match reflections by saying, “We had a starter out and had to fill in that role. The girls did a good job adjusting and playing hard despite a new lineup.”

The Lady Wildcats will be back in action on Thursday when they play host to Hutchinson Trinity beginning at 5:00 pm.
