KONEN TAKES CHARGE, LEADS REDSKINS

By William / www.mcpherson-county-ks.com

LITTLE RIVER ā€“ Despite losing over 80% of their offense to graduation, the Little River football never seemed to miss a step in their 2021 season opener as they buried Peabody/Burns 62-6 at home on Friday in a game that was over by halftime due to point rules.

Replacing the tandem of Jayden Garrison and Graham Stephens seemed to be no problem as Rylan Konen stepped into the quarterback position and ran for two touchdowns while throwing for two more as he led the Redskins offense.

For the game, Konen only threw the ball twice but both went for touchdowns covering 63 and 45 yards in the process. Konen also ran for a pair of scores on nine carries for 106 yards.

Braxton Lafferty threw once and covered 36 yards for a third passing touchdown by Little River while Grant Stephens scored twice and Corbin Herbst scored once.

Ty Herzog, Kyle Bruce, Lafferty and Stephens led the Little River defense that held Peabody/Burns to just 109 yards of total offense on 29 offensive plays.

Little River rolled up 372 yards on just 24 offensive plays and recorded 12 first downs to just five for the visitors.

The Redskins could get a test next Friday when they play host to Clifton/Clyde, considered one of the top teams of 8-Man Division I for 2021.
