INMAN – The Inman football team made short work of the visiting Hutchinson Trinity Catholic on Friday as they rolled to a 52-0 shutout victory in their 2021 season opener.

While holding Trinity to just 103 yards in total offense on 45 plays, the Teutons offense in turn had the ball for 43 plays and covered 444 total yards, including 309 yards on the ground. Inman recorded 16 first downs to Trinity’s six while forcing the visitors into four fumbles of which three were recovered by the Teutons.

“I was pleased with our overall effort tonight,” noted Teuton head coach Lance Sawyer. “I thought our guys played extremely physical on both sides of the ball and we were able to get off to a fast start as we were able to capitalize on several of Trinity’s first half turnovers. We were able to play a lot of young players and they did well in holding Trinity scoreless throughout the second half. We are going to be a really deep team on both sides of the ball.”

Inman scored three times in the first quarter, including two pass plays covering 35 and 80 yards from Jace Doerksen to Harrison Brunk. In between the two scoring passes, Kyler Konrade chipped in with a 16-yard scamper, giving the Teutons a 22-0 early advantage.

Dawson Mannebach scored early in the second stanza on a 14-yard runs after which Talon Welch picked up one of four Trinity fumbles and rambled in for another score giving Inman a commanding 36-0 lead.

Kendyn Blank raced 65 yards for a score before adding another 11-yard scoring run after Welch scored again on defense with a safety to finalize the Inman scoring and giving them the final 52-0 victory.

Doerksen guided the offense at quarterback and needed to only complete four passes of which two went for the scores to Brunk who finished the game with 115 yards receiving on just those two catches.

It only took 10 carries for Kendyn Blank and Tanner Heckel to each go over 100 yards as Blank ran five times for 101 and Heckel recorded 100 yards on his five totes.

“Offensively we were able to get a couple of deep shots to Harrison (Brunk) early on and with his speed it loosens up the defense,” added Coach Sawyer when reflecting on his offense. “After that we were able to get our run game going with both Kendyn (Blank) and Tanner (Heckel) having a really nice game running the ball on limited touches. Jace (Doerksen) threw the ball extremely well on limited throws as well. Our offensive line was solid as both Zaden Johnson and Dominic Neuce-Rasmussen both had solid first games on the line.”

On defense, Kellen Schrag, Heckel, and Konrade each recorded four tackles as 16 Teutons recorded at least one tackle in the game.

Coach Sawyer concluded his post-game reflections by noting, “Our defense was excellent. Coach Froese did an excellent job getting the guys prepared and our guys flew to the ball every play. Kyler (Konrade) and Talon (Welch) filled holes at the linebacker spots and our defensive line was extraordinarily good. Dawson Mannebach and Grant Thimmesch were a force on both sides of the ball.”

Next up for the Teutons will be a road game on Friday, September 10 when they travel to Ellinwood.
