ELYRIA – Playing at home on Tuesday, the Elyria volleyball team lost a straight dual in straight sets to Herington.

The Lady Eagles lost 19-25 in the first set before dropping the second set 14-25.

Leading Elyria on the court was Ryland Hawkinson who made 12 digs, recorded five kills and made four blocks. Kylee Penner made seven digs while scoring seven blocks and Macy Reiff had nine digs.

“We played a talented Herington team tonight,” noted Lady Eagle head coach Jayme Gardner in her post match reflections. “They move the ball around well and use their entire team to get the job done. From early on, our heads were not in the game, and we just could not shake that. That alone caused us to revert back to some old habits of not moving our feet and not talking to each other. When we don’t move or talk well, things do not fall into place.”

In the junior varsity match, the Lady Eagles and Herington split two sets with Herington winning the first one 10-25 before Elyria scored a 25-23 victory in set two. Raegan Hawkinson scored four kills and made eight digs while Addison Swenson had eight digs and recorded three ace serves to lead the team.

Next up for the Elyria spikers will be on Saturday, September 11 when they go on the road to compete in the tournament at Solomon.
