CANTON – Outside of a tight first set, a trip on Tuesday to Canton proved to be all in favor of the Little River volleyball team as they hammered the Lady Eagles in a straight three sets of a best-of-5 dual match.
In the first set of the evening, Canton/Galva gave the Lady Redskins a huge fight before Little River was able to put the set away with a two-point, 25-23 win. The final two sets of the match went much easier for the Lady Redskins as they won 25-14 and 25-7.
Lily Boughfman helped lead Little River with nine kills and nine digs while Kate Ellwood directed the offense with precision as she recorded 25 assists.
Other team leaders included Aubrey Olander (7 kills & 3 blocks), Alaina Eck (4 kills & 7 digs), Elsie Boughfman (4 kills), Mea DeBaere (8 digs), and Ashley Stephenson (6 kills).
The Little River coaches also pointed out that as a team the Lady Redskins had 65/68 serves or 96%, while Kami Grasser was acknowledged for being perfect with both high serve and serve/receive rating.
“Canton/Galva gave us a run in that first set digging up our hits and just being super scrappy,” explained Little River head coach Kim Rolfs in her post match reflections. “Proud of how the girls responded by making plays when we needed them and picking up their tempo a bit to get the win without going into four or five sets.”
Next up for the Lady Redskins will be a trip to Centre on Saturday for the Centre Invitational.
