ELLINWOOD – For the second week in a row the Inman football team powered past their opponent with Ellinwood being the victim on Friday as the Teutons went on the road and routed the home team 68-0.

After shutting out Trinity in week one, this gives the Teutons a 120-0 advantage in points on the scoreboard in the first two weeks of the 2021 season.

“After winning the game with Hutchinson Trinity I was wondering if we were going to have a letdown in tonight’s game,” noted Teuton head coach Lance Sawyer. Our guys came out ready to play and we were physical from the opening kickoff.”

The Teutons began the scoring with an early 62-yard pass from Jace Doerksen to Eli Brunk that turned out to be one of only two pass plays in the whole game for Doerksen.

After that Inman ran wild with Kendyn Blank and Kyler Konrade each running for three touchdowns while Samuel Shober jogged in for the final score of the game. In and around the running, Konrade returned an interception back for a score on Ellinwood’s second offensive play of the game while Talon Welch took down the Ellinwood quarterback in the end zone for a safety.

For the game, Blank ran for 123 yards on just five carries as his three scores came from 49, 26, and 25 yards out.

Coach Sawyer complemented the blocking during his post-game reflections when he said, “Our offensive line played extremely well tonight. They opened up holes for Kendyn (Blank) and Tanner (Heckel) to run through. Jace Doerksen again played well even though he did not need to throw very often.”

For the game the Teutons totaled 340 yards in offense on just 28 plays or a bit over 12 yards gained every time they snapped the ball.

Defensively, it was lights out for Inman as they held Ellinwood to a miniscule 25 yards on 49 offensive snaps, including just two yards rushing on 34 carries. The Teutons forced Ellinwood into two pass interceptions and a fumble as well.

Eli Brunk led the team in tackles with seven while Konrade recorded five and Welch had three.

It was the defense that Coach Sawyer discussed as he concluded his reflections on the blowout, adding, “Our defense played fast and dominated the game. Other than the opening kickoff, it felt like the entire game was played on their side of the field. Eli (Brunk) had his best game on the defensive side of the ball with seven solo tackles that included a quarterback sack. Our defensive line of Dominic Nuese-Rasmussen, Grant Thimmesch, and Dawson Mannebach controlled the line of scrimmage. Kyler (Konrade) had a good night on both sides of the ball as he had a pick-six early while getting those three rushing touchdowns as well.”

Now 2-0 for the season and dominating both sides of the ball, the Teutons will play host next Friday to Salina Sacred Heart, a team that is currently 0-2 for the season and has only found the end zone twice.
