MACKSVILLE – It was a slugfest on the scoreboard for a hair over three quarters before the Moundridge football team took control and scored three times in final eight minutes of the game Friday to earn a 54-36 road victory over Macksville.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 12-0 first quarter lead on two scoring passes of 36 and 32 yards from Henry Hecox to Joseph Schrag and Logan Churchill.

While Joaquin Huff added a five-yard scoring run to the board for Moundridge in the second quarter, Macksville was able to put a couple of touchdowns in the books to pull within four of Moundridge at halftime, 18-14.

The two teams traded scores in the third quarter as the Wildcats kept a slim, two-point advantage of 32-30 by the end of the stanza thanks to a 65-yard scoring pass from Hecox to Kase Ptacek along with a Ptacek 20-yard touchdown run.

After Macksville slipped in another touchdown early in the final quarter to take a 36-32 lead, the Wildcats closed out the game in a flurry with three scoring drives that resulted in short touchdown runs by Ptacek and Brayden Conquest in the final eight minutes of the game to give Moundridge the final 54-36 victory.

For the second time in two games, Kase Ptacek lead the Wildcat offense as he rambled for 209 yards on 35 carries for the evening, giving him 321 yards on 62 carries in the first two games of the 2021 season. With his 65-yard scoring pass from Henry Hecox, Ptacek accounted for 274 in offense.

Wildcat freshman quarterback Henry Hecox turned in his second strong game as he threw for 192 yards on eight completions that included the three touchdowns.

Overall, the Moundridge offense rolled up 433 yards on 59 offensive plays or right at 7.3 yards per play while the defense kept Macksville to just under four yards per play with only 189 yards on 49 offensive snaps.

Joaquin Huff and Logan Churchill led the Wildcat defense as each recorded nine tackles, with Huff getting four which went for a loss of yardage. Ptacek added six tackles and Brayden Conquest had five.

Now 1-1 for the season, the Wildcats will be back at home next Friday when they play host to Bennington who will come into the game unbeaten at 2-0.
