The McPherson Middle School girls tennis team battled with Newton Chisholm Middle School on Thursday and came out the overall winner 10-7 despite losing three of four in doubles competition.

The Junior Lady Pups went 9-4 in singles competition with Dragon Rodriguez being the lone girl to win 6-0 without losing a set.

In the doubles competition, the lone McPherson win came from Brodie Kuhn and Avery Eveland as they won 6-0.

“Tonight, our girls played well against a tough Newton team,” explained Junior Lady Pup head coach Paul Reichenberger. “We were able to limit our mistakes and play some quality tennis. Maryn (Sandbo) played an epic singles match that ended up in a tie breaker which she won 8-6. It was one of the best matches I have watched in a long time. Overall, we still have a lot to improve on. Every girl wants to be getting better, and it is my hope we continue to improve every day we pick up our rackets.”

Next up for the Junior Lady Pups will be on Tuesday, September 14 when they play host to Salina South.
