The McPherson Middle School 7th grade volleyball team remains unbeaten for the 2021 season as they defeated Goddard Eisenhower on Thursday and then won three straight matches in a quad on the road in Concordia on Saturday.

Up next for the now 6-0, 7th grade Junior Lady Pup spikers will be on Tuesday when they play host to triangular with Emporia and Salina South.

7TH GRADE JUNIOR LADY PUPS ‘A’ TEAM:

On Thursday, the 7th grade Junior Lady Pups ‘A’ team scored a commanding straight set victory over Goddard Eisenhower, winning 25-11, 25-21.

“I was very proud of the effort tonight in our first home match of the season,” noted 7th grade head coach Shelley Bohme. “We played well defensively but struggled with serving. There were some great play at the net while we continue to improve with getting passes up to our setters.”

Saturday, the 7th grade spikers went to Concordia and scored straight set wins over Hays (25-19, 26-24), Newton (25-8, 25-17), and Concordia (25-15, 25-21).

According to coaches Rylie Whitfield helped get the win against Hays with her serving at the end of the match while in the tangle with Concordia, Piper Alvord, Carmin Pavlovich, and Jaela Thompson were sited for some amazing work at the net. Tylee Wilson was acknowledged for stepping in and being aggressive when needed and Marah Kaufman was pinned for serving well in all three matches.

“We started the day with an exciting match against Hays as both sets were extremely close,” pointed out 7th grade head coach Shelley Bohme when reflecting on the match with Hays. “Neither team led by more than two points in the first set until we went on a 6-0 run at the end. Set two was just as tight, and I was proud of how the girls were able to take care of business and get the win.”

Coach Bohme concluded her reflections on the quad by adding, “Our best serving of the season thus far was against Newton, only missing one serve on the match and except for some unforced errors, we played well against Concordia. It felt good to play against some solid competition, now we need to improve our serving as we prepare for a busy week of volleyball.”

7th GRADE JUNIOR LADY PUP ‘B’ TEAM:

The 7th grade ‘B’ team lost their first match of the season to Goddard Eisenhower, but it took them three sets to do it (25-18, 24-26, 14-16). The ‘B’ team is now 2-1 for the season.
