CANTON – With their regular scheduled game against Rural Vista canceled, the Canton/Galva football team managed to get Solomon to come to town and play the Eagles, something which the Gorillas may have second thoughts about as the Eagles put the hammer to them with a 54-6 win.

The Eagles scored four times in the first quarter, three on pass plays from Garrett Maltbie. Two of those went to all-stater Tyson Struber for 14 and 54 yards while the third connected with Cason Mastre from 48 yards out. Struber made good runs for two two-point conversions while Lane McMannis ran two more in to give Canton/Galva a commanding 32-0 advantage at the end 12 minutes of play.

Maltbie connected with Struber for a third scoring pass, this time from 60 yards while running one in for a score in the second quarter. Solomon managed to get a score in as well, giving the Eagles a 48-6 lead going into the halftime break.

Canton/Galva finished the game off with a scoring run in the third quarter.

Maltbie passed for 219 yards while running for another 59 to give him 278 of the Eagles 318 yards of total offense.

Defensively, Canton/Galva held the Gorillas to just 129 yards on 43 offensive plays and were led by Xavier Westbrook who totaled nine tackles. Struber recorded seven while Nick Evans had five-and-a-half and Lane McMannis had five including two-and-a-half for loss of yards.
