The McPherson Middle School 7th grade volleyball team remained unbeaten on the season as they won two matches on Monday before dominating Abilene on Tuesday on the front end of a very busy week.

With the ‘A’ team, they swept both Emporia (25-17, 25-19) and Salina South (25-9, 25-15) on Monday before handling Abilene on Tuesday (25-13, 25-16).

The ‘B’ team Junior Lady Pups won both of their matches on Monday and then took command from the start to the end with Abilene on Tuesday to raise their season record to 5-1.

Up next for the 7th grade Junior Lady Pup spikers will be a road match with Salina Lakewood on Thursday before finishing up the busy week with a tournament at Prairie Hills on Saturday.

Here is a recap of the 7th grade ‘A’ and ‘B’ team

On Monday the 7th grade Junior Lady Pups took down Emporia in straight sets (25-17, 25-19) before dominating Salina South in straight sets (25-9, 25-15) to finish out a solid evening of volleyball.

“We got off to a strong start against Emporia before struggling with communication and a lack of some focus,” noted 7th grade Junior Lady Pup head coach Shelley Bohme. “I challenged the girls to be more aggressive at the net instead of trying to tip everything, and I though we played better in the second match against Salina South. There were some amazing hustle plays and saved balls.”

In the single match battle with Abilene on Tuesday, the ‘A’ team took command and played aggressive while taking both sets (25-13, 25-16) in the victory.

Coach Bohme concluded her reflections on the three matches in two days by saying, “Our serving was much better tonight and overall, we did a nice job of setting the ball up to our hitters and being aggressive at the net. Jaela Thompson, Carmin Pavlovich, Piper Alvord, and Marah Kaufman all got some hits tonight. Rylie Whitfield and Londyn Dietrich bot set and passed well while Tylee Wilson came in and was aggressive on the back row. We were able to get Kynedi Huggard some ‘A’ team experience tonight as we needed a consistent server and she came in and did exactly what was needed.”

With the three match victories in two days, the 7th grade Junior Lady Pup ‘A’ team is now 9-0 on the season.

With the 7th grade Junior Lady Pup ‘B’ team, they won both their matches in straight sets but were challenged in three of the four sets as they out played Emporia (25-9, 25-20) before outdueling Salina South (25-17, 25-20).

After struggling to get a first set win (25-23) on Tuesday against Abilene, the 7th grade ‘B’ team put the hammer down in the second set and dominated with a 25-9 win.

“The girls are starting to work really well together as a team,” said coach Stevie Stockham. “Kynedi Huggard was a rockstar server, getting 15 points in the first set before putting in some time with the ‘A’ team.”
