MOUNDRIDGE = The Moundridge football team performed well at moments on Friday but just could not keep up with Bennington, losing a scoring slugfest 52-34.

The loss drops the Wildcats to 1-2 for the season while Bennington remains unbeaten at 3-0.

Moundridge took the early lead with a 24-yard touchdown pass from Henry Hecox to Logan Churchill in the first quarter only to have Bennington bounce back with three straight scores to begin the second quarter before the Wildcats were able to score again as the second quarter saw 42 points put on the scoreboard.

Bennington and Moundridge traded the final three scores with the Wildcats Henry Hecox throwing two more scoring passes, a second one to Logan Churchill of 35 yards plus one to Joseph Schrag that covered 21 yards. By the time the two teams found the halftime break, Bennington had rolled out to a commanding 30-18 advantage.

Kase Ptacek scored on a four-yard run in the third quarter to pull the Wildcats to within four at 30-26 before Bennington put another score on the board before the end of the third quarter to regain a more comfortable 10-point lead again.

The visitors scored two more times in the fourth quarter with Moundridge sandwiching in a 12-yard scoring scamper by Henry Hecox in between them.

While the Moundridge offense put up 240 yards on 58 offensive plays, they gave up 365 on 65 plays, including 267 yards on the ground by the visitors.

Henry Hecox only completed nine-of-17 passes but did so for 129 yards and three scores to lead the Wildcat offense, while Kase Ptacek ran for 86 yards on 21 carries and Logan Churchill caught four of Hecox’s passes for 66 yards and two of the three scores.

On defense, five Wildcats recorded at least six tackles led by Anthony Everhart with 10, JD Jenkins with 8, Brayden Conquest with 7.5 and both Joaquin Huff and Joseph Schrag each recording 6.5. The team totaled seven times in which they stopped Bennington for a loss of yardage.

Next up for the Wildcats will be on Friday, September 24 when they go on the road to tangle with Medicine Lodge who will come into the game unbeaten at 3-0 after hammering Macksville on Friday 54-14.
