The McPherson Middle School girls tennis team traveled south to Maize on Monday to participate in the Maize South Middle School Girls Tennis Tournament and came home with a 2nd place team trophy as well as 1st and three-2nd place finishes by the Junior Lady Pups.

“Today was yet another great day of tennis,” noted Junior Lady Pup head coach Paul Reichenberger. “While we didn’t get first place, I am very proud of how all the girls played as we represented McPherson well and competed against some great tennis competition all day long. To finish second in this tournament is not an easy feat and the girls all played great today.”

While the team placed second out of eight teams overall, the highlight for McPherson came from the doubles team duo of Brodie Kuhn and Avery Eveland who took 1st place in #1 Doubles.

McPherson was well represented in the finals of all the doubles competition as Avery Unruh and McKenna Paul teamed up in #2 Doubles and placed second while the tandem of Hannah Brubaker and Dragon Rodriguez also placed second in the #3 Doubles division.

Maryn Sandbo made the finals for the Junior Lady Pups in #1 Singles and placed second while both Erin Olsen in #2 Singles and Ava Miller in #3 Singles each took third place.

Coach Reichenberger concluded his post-tournament reflections by saying, “Brodie (Kuhn) and Avery (Eveland) were the only team to defeat an Andover girls all day, which makes their first-place victory even more impressive. Tomorrow we travel back to Andover for a dual where we will again be given an opportunity to play the best team in the our league.”
