MARION – While the two Lady Teuton cross country stars did not run at the Marion Invitational on Thursday, several of the Inman junior varsity and middle school runners did and all performed well, including two first-place winners.

Both Hannah Martisko and Lauren Aden of the Lady Teutons varsity team choose not to run as they will be running on Saturday at the huge Rim Rock Cross Country Classic in Lawrence.

In the junior varsity boys 5K run, the Teutons Riley Stalllings ran not only his best time of the season but of his career and took gold, finishing first with a time of 20:19.79.

Lacie Baxter and Enrica Angileri medaled for the Lady Teutons in the junior varsity girls 5K as Baxter ran a 27:41.71 to place fourth and Angileri finished right behind in fifth running a 27:43.17.

“I thought we had a good week of practice and it showed in terms of the times some of the runners ran,” pointed out Teuton head coach Jay Parsons. “Several of our runners lowered their times from last week by quite a bit. A few of those same runners commented after their race about the fact they felt better after this race than they ever have before.”

For the Teuton Middle School runners, Lily Heflin won the seventh-grade girls 1,600 meter run with a time of 6:46.11 while Kaleb Moen medaled by finishing eighth in the seventh-grade boys race with a time of 7:20.50.

In the 3,200-meter Middle School races, Tyler Martisko medaled with a second-place finish in the boys division, running a 13:16.92 while Addison Wedel medaled for the Junior Lady Teutons with a run of 16:42.80 which was good for ninth.

A total of nine Junior Teuton runners ran in the Middle School races, giving Inman a strong look for cross country in the future.

Next up for the Teuton harriers will come on Thursday, September 30 when they run at Berean Academy.
