LAWRENCE – The Canton/Galva cross country program only had one representative at the huge Rimrock High School Cross Country Classic in Lawrence on Saturday, but that one runner made the Eagle program proud.

Christian Darrah, running for his senior season, ran a lifetime personal best of 17:13 which was good enough for him to finish 8th out of 257 runners in the Varsity Boys ‘Blue’ Division of the Rimrock Classic.

Kodi Downs of Council Grove won the division with a time of 16:14.

According to Eagle head coach Lyle Silsby, “Christian (Darrah) had a really good start to the race and was able to get out ahead of the bunched-up pack at the start of the race. At the mile mark, Christian was in 5th place, was running 7th at the two-mile mark before being able to continue a strong race up and down the hills to finish 8th overall.”

“This was a great experience for Christian by being able to run on the historical Rimrock course,” added Coach Silsby during his reflections of how well Christian did. “Being his first time ever on or even seeing the course, I would say he had an amazing effort. Setting a lifetime personal best time on such a hilly, difficult course was very impressive.”

Next up for the Eagle cross country team will be on Thursday, September 30 when they run at Berean Academy with racing starting at 3:30 pm.
