CANTON – After the early season struggles, the Canton/Galva have put together a couple of more victories on their record for 2021 with a win at the Herington Tournament on Saturday plus a victory over Peabody on Senior Night Tuesday evening.

On Saturday, the Lady Eagles finished off a busy week at the Herington Tournament where they went 1-2 for the day. In their opening match Canton/Galva lost in straight sets to Council Grove (12-25, 8-25) and while playing much better, still lost their second match of the day, again in straight sets to Centre (19-25, 16-25).

The Lady Eagles finished off the week by earning a hard fought straight set victory over Sunrise Christian Academy (25-16, 25-22).

“Our girls had a long week with lots of matches,” explained Lady Eagle head coach Cloe Hedlund when reflecting on the Saturday tournament. “We finished it off with a win, so that was great to see a positive ending. We continue to work hard and play together as a team.”

On Tuesday, the Lady Eagles celebrated senior night by nearly getting a set of wins.

After getting themselves a straight set victory over Peabody (25-23, 25-20), the Lady Eagles went nose-to-nose with Centre again before losing in three sets (25-18, 23-25, 16-25).

Coach Hedlund concluded her reflections of recent competition by adding, “It was Senior Night, so it was great to get a win for the team. We played well most of the night but got tired late and made some costly mistakes against Centre.”

Next up for the Lady Eagle spikers will be to host the Canton/Galva Invitations on Saturday involving some heavy hitting teams like Little River, Goessel, Halstead, Marion and Solomon along with Sunrise Christian Academy, and Wichita Homeschool.
