CANTON – It has been a busy four days for the Canton/Galva volleyball team as they hosted a tournament on Saturday and then went on the road Tuesday to battle with Herington and Rural Vista.

On Saturday, the Lady Eagles went 1-3 at their tournament, beginning with a hard fought, close two-set loss to Solomon (20-25, 22-25).

Canton/Galva scored another win for the season in their second match by bouncing back from a first set loss (19-25) to Sunrise Christian Academy to take the final two sets (25-23, 25-14) and score a team victory.

Match number three on the day pitted the Lady Eagle against powerhouse Little River where they lost in straight sets (17-25, 13-25) before closing out the tournament with a loss to Goessel (16-25, 16-25) in straight sets as well.

The Lady Eagles traveled to Herington on Tuesday where they lost in straight sets to Herington (7-25, 17-25) before battling hard and taking Rural Vista to three sets before losing (22-25, 25-23, 12-25).

“We came alive in the second set against Herington,” noted Lady Eagle head coach Cloe Hedlund during her post match reflections. “The players did a nice job of playing defense and keeping the ball alive. It was impressive to see them put up a good fight and play against a very good Herington team.”

Coach Hedlund concluded her reflections by adding, “We struggles to continue to play as a team against Rural Vista though in our second set we came back with a fight but couldn’t keep the momentum on our side through the final set.”

The Lady Eagles now have 11 days to rest and prep for the Wheat State League Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, October 16 at Centre.
