ELYRIA – In a busy four days of play, the Elyria Volleyball team traveled to Burrton on Saturday and placed fifth at the Burrton Invitational before bouncing back on Tuesday and going to Centre to score two victories over Peabody/Burns and Centre.

On Saturday, the Lady Eagles began the day losing in pool play to both Inman (2-25, 14-25), and Berean Academy (8-25, 12-25) in straight sets before bouncing back big to score a straight set win over Cunningham (25-12, 25-7).

In the match with Berean Academy, Elyria was led by Julia Allen with 10 digs while Kylee Penner recorded 3 kills and 6 digs. Against Cunningham, Ryland Hawkinson recorded 9 kills while making 7 digs. Kortney Potter had a strong match as well in scoring 3 service aces while making 14 digs, while Macy Reiff made 8 digs.

In the fifth-place match with invitational host Burrton, the Lady Eagles scored a hard fought, tight straight set victory (28-26, 25-19) with Hawkinson scored 3 service aces, recording 9 kills and making 8 digs. Kortney Potter had another strong match, this time scored 5 service aces along with making 6 digs while Macy Reiff made 11 digs.

Ryland Hawkinson was also honored by being named to the Burrton All-Invitational Team.

On Tuesday, the Lady Eagles went to Lost Springs for a triangular with Centra and Peabody/Burns, coming home with two straight set victories.

Against Peabody/Burns in the opening match, Elyria scored a 25-19, 25-20 win with Ryland Hawkinson and Kylee Penner recording 10 and 9 kills respectively. Julia Allen made 14 digs while Kylee Penner, Jory Glendening, and Alexus Swenson each had 8. Kortney Potter pitched in with 20 assists.

In the evening finale, the Lady Eagles out battled Centra 26-24, 25-18. Hawkinson again had 8 kills while Kylee Penner scored 5 service aces and made 7 digs along with both Macy Reiff and Hawkinson getting 6 digs each.

With the Lady Eagle junior varsity, Raegan Hawkinson scored 5 service aces and Jory Glendening made 7 digs as Elyria split two sets with Centre, losing the first 12-25 before winning the second 26-24.

Next, the Lady Eagles have 11 days to rest and prep for the Wheat State League volleyball tournament to be played at Centre on Saturday, October 16.
